Did you know that every day in Houston there are over 88,000 preschool aged children who may not know where their next meal is coming from? I‘m amazed to learn that Harris County has the second highest rate of unreliable access to affordable, nutritious food for children under the age of 5. Our area, although, is fortunate to have a group who helps to solve this issue. Let me introduce Kids’ Meals to you.
The Kids’ Meals mission is to end childhood hunger by delivering free healthy meals to the doorsteps of the hungriest pre-school children. Kid’s Meals started as just one person preparing meals and has blossomed into a fleet of vans that serve 43 Houston-area zips.
Recently, Coton House joined in to volunteer. Our team collected and supplied healthy fruit snacks and also used our culinary skills to make sandwiches. Together, we also made granola mix and sacked over 1,000 bags to be passed out. We learned that we helped these children’s brains develop, helped to end the cycle of poverty and helped to be better neighbors.
The Coton House team will continue to help this great group and the future of Houston on a quarterly basis. We would love for you to come join us to end childhood hunger, as well.
