Best Cheeseburgers in Houston

Houston has some of the best food in the country and such an eclectic assortment of options, but sometimes all we want are the simplest things like the tried and true cheeseburger. I’ve never met a cheeseburger I didn’t like, but some stand out more than others. These are the ones I dream about. If you haven’t had them yet, you are missing out!

Tiny Boxwoods

Appropriately named, the Lucky Burger at Tiny Boxwoods is a gift from above. If you’ve been lucky enough to taste it you know that the fluffy brioche bun, sweet pickles, tangy “lucky sauce”, gooey American cheese, and perfectly charred flavor of the two patties come together to create magic in your mouth. It’s a gourmet burger worth every penny. It comes with a heaping mound of your choice of either regular or sweet potato fries that equally complement the burger.

Toasted Coconut

Cheeseburger in paradise is right! Toasted Coconut’s World Famous Burger is a menu must at this tropical tiki inspired spot. Two juicy patties layered with American cheese, chili aioli, pickles and onions sandwiched between a sweet Hawaiian bun. As if that wasn’t enough, they have an impressive list of add-ons you can choose from to level up your burger including a fried egg, bacon jam, thick cut bacon, avocado, and even pickled jalapenos. But if you know anything about anything, you know you MUST add the bacon jam on top. You get the sweetness of the jam paired with the saltiness of the bacon “slaw” (if you will). Need I say more?

Alice Blue

When I think of this spot, I think of a little bakery/coffee shop serving up dainty bites. But don’t sleep on their double bacon cheeseburger! It comes with with pickled onions and pickles served on a challah bun but the real pièce de résistance is the garlic aioli they put on top. I can’t even put it into words. Order some to go on the side for your French fries as well and thank me later.

Burger Joint

Burger Joint is a Houston staple that was founded in Montrose in 2015 and now has multiple locations and a reputation for having the juiciest burgers in town. They make their burgers with a blend of Freshly ground Angus beef cuts making each one of their unique burgers mouth wateringly juicy. Though its hard to stick to the classic cheeseburger with so many good choices on the menu, trust me, it wont disappoint. The breakfast burger is a bacon cheeseburger topped with American cheese, bacon aioli, and a fried egg. Its so simple but SO GOOD and a must try.

Squabble

Not that I believe that is actually possible, but if you were to ever get tired of your standard all American cheeseburger, this is the move. I swear you can practically taste the French in this burger. Squabble creates their French cheeseburger by swapping the American cheese for raclette and in an unexpected power move, subbing the mayo for straight butter. Don’t forget the pickles which bring it all together! And of course its served with French fries.

Riel

What’s better than a cheeseburger? Two cheeseburgers! These sliders are tiny but mighty and as their name suggests, full of everyone’s favorite thing: butter. Riel’s butter burgers come with caramelized onions and cheese on, you guessed it, a butter bun. Bite sized, juicy, buttery; They go down real easy!
