INTERIOR DESIGN INTERN

Coton House is seeking a dependable, organized, and hands-on Interior Design Intern to support our Houston design studio. This role is ideal for someone who takes initiative, enjoys creating order, and is willing to step in wherever help is needed.
While the intern will gain exposure to the interior design process, this is also a highly practical support role. A large part of the position will involve maintaining our sample studio, coordinating materials, completing local errands, and helping keep projects moving forward.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail
• Dependable, punctual, and able to follow through on assignments
• Comfortable taking initiative and completing tasks independently once given direction
• Able to manage multiple assignments and adjust priorities throughout the day
• Professional and comfortable communicating with vendors, clients, delivery teams, and trades
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Canva, or other interior design software is helpful but not required
• Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
• Able to lift and move sample boxes, small furniture pieces, and other studio materials as needed

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Organize and maintain the Coton House sample studio and materials library
• Sort, label, file, and return fabric, tile, flooring, countertop, paint, hardware, wallpaper, and other product samples
• Regularly review samples and remove discontinued or outdated materials
• Contact vendors to confirm product availability, pricing, lead times, and current sample information
• Request, track, pick up, and return samples from local vendor showrooms
• Assist with preparing materials, samples, and presentation boards for client and builder meetings
• Participate in occasional project selections with guidance
• Help source products and gather information for active design projects
• Coordinate local pickups and drop offs between the studio, vendor showrooms, client homes, and project sites
• Receive, inspect, photograph, and organize incoming samples and small product orders
• Occasionally oversee the delivery or installation of one or two furniture, accessory, or design items
• Assist with organizing the studio before and after meetings, presentations, installations, and events
• Help maintain accurate project files, sample records, and product information
• Assist with administrative tasks and other studio or project needs as they arise

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is a doer who notices what needs attention and is willing to help. They do not mind organizing samples, making a pickup, preparing for a meeting, or moving between several different tasks in one day. They are eager to learn, receptive to guidance, and understand that working in a small design studio requires flexibility, teamwork, and consistent communication.
Our studio operates with a collaborative, hands-on approach. Interns may assist with a variety of practical tasks, but these responsibilities are shared across the company and are also regularly handled by our designers. We value people who are willing to contribute wherever needed to keep the studio organized and our projects moving forward.
